College Counseling · Abu Dhabi & OnlineCollege Counseling in the UAE, From Entrance Exams to University Life
Getting into university is not one decision — it’s a long sequence of smaller ones, starting years before an application is submitted and continuing well after the acceptance letter arrives. Our college counseling program is built to guide students through that entire arc.
- Staged by grade level
- One counselor, start to finish
- Planned with SAT & IELTS prep
Counseling Built Around
Where a Student Actually Is
Not every student needs the same kind of support at the same time. That’s why our college counseling works in stages, matched to where a student is in their journey — guided by the same counseling team throughout, so a student’s file, history and goals carry forward instead of starting over with a new advisor each year.
Families in Abu Dhabi meet their counselor at our Khalifa City center or online, and families in Dubai and across the UAE work with the same team online, at every stage from Grade 9 through the first year of university.
Grades 9–10: Early Exploration
Helping students understand academic streams, strengths and interests before subject and exam choices lock them into a direction.
Grades 11–12: Admissions-Focused
Building a university list, planning SAT/IELTS timing, and managing the application process itself.
College and Beyond
Support through the transition to university life, including academic adjustment and early career direction.

University List Building

Reach, Match and Safety — Balanced
A list built across reach, match and safety options, based on the student’s actual profile — not name recognition alone.
Entrance Exam Planning
03
Coordinated With Test Prep
Coordinated directly with our SAT and IELTS preparation programs, so exam timing supports application deadlines.
Application & Scholarship Support
04
Essays, Recommendations & Financial Aid
Essay guidance, activity list positioning, and recommendation letter coordination, all hands-on rather than a template — plus identifying merit- and need-based scholarship opportunities that fit the student’s profile and target list.
Transition Support
05
Ready Before Day One
Help after acceptance — preparing academically and practically for a student’s first year at university.
Building a Realistic University List
A common mistake families make is building a university list around name recognition alone. We build lists across three categories instead, so every student has options at every level of risk.
Reach schools are competitive for the student’s profile and worth applying to, but not guaranteed. Match schools are programs where the student’s academic profile aligns closely with the admitted-student average. Safety schools are strong options where admission is highly likely, so a student always has a good outcome secured.
A balanced list, at a glance
- Reach
- Competitive for the student's profile; worth applying to, not guaranteed
- Match
- Academic profile aligns closely with the admitted-student average
- Safety
- Admission is highly likely, so a good outcome is always secured
- Built from
- The student's actual assessment — not name recognition alone
Why Staging the Support Matters
Families sometimes come to us already deep into Grade 12, needing help under real time pressure — and we can absolutely start there.
Starting in Grade 9 or 10
Early guidance on subject selection, extracurricular direction and academic strengths gives a student time to build a coherent profile before application season begins.
Result: a stronger, better-matched application, built over years rather than months.
Starting in Grade 11 or 12
Counseling compressed into a single senior-year sprint still works — a structured assessment and list quickly replace years of exploration with focused, immediate decisions.
Result: a well-matched list and application, built under real time pressure.
Our College Counseling Process
A structured assessment covering academic strengths, interests and goals, giving us a clear picture of where a student is starting from.
We identify university programs, countries and pathways that genuinely fit, and build a development plan covering entrance exam timing, extracurricular positioning and application milestones.
Regular one-on-one sessions with a dedicated counselor to work through decisions as they come up, from stream selection to essay topics.
Hands-on support through the application itself — school selection, essays, recommendation letters and scholarship applications — with clear deadlines throughout.
Who This Program Is For

- Grade 11–12 students building a university list and preparing applications
- Students who need their SAT/IELTS timeline planned around application deadlines

Scholarships & Financial Planning
University costs, especially abroad, are a major factor for most UAE families, and scholarship opportunities vary enormously by country, university and program. Our counselors help identify merit-based and need-based scholarship opportunities relevant to a student’s profile and target list.
Every scholarship search starts from your student’s own university list — reach, match and safety schools each carry different scholarship opportunities.
From Entrance Exams to the Application
College counseling at Mind Base doesn’t sit apart from our SAT and IELTS preparation — the two are planned together. Your counselor works with our test prep team so your exam timeline is built around your application deadlines, not the other way around.
Our college counseling team includes Dr. Viviane Foyou, whose background spans more than 15 years in higher education and university admissions, alongside counselors who bring direct experience guiding students into competitive programs.

Frequently Asked Questions
At what grade should we start college counseling?
Earlier is easier, not necessary. Starting in Grade 9 or 10 gives the most room to shape subject choices and extracurriculars, but students starting in Grade 11 or 12 still have time to build a strong, well-matched application with focused counseling.
Do you help with applications to universities outside the UAE?
Yes — our counseling team, along with dedicated teams in the USA, Canada, and Australia/New Zealand, supports applications to universities across multiple countries, not only regional options.
Is entrance exam prep included in college counseling, or is it separate?
They’re planned together. Your counselor coordinates directly with our SAT and IELTS preparation team so your test timeline supports your application deadlines rather than competing with them.
How do I get started?
Book a free consultation. We start with an assessment of where your student is right now — whether that’s choosing a stream, building a university list, or preparing an application — and recommend a counseling plan and timeline. You can also reach us on WhatsApp at +971 2 583 2298.
Is IELTS coaching available online, or only in person?
Both. Students in Abu Dhabi can attend in person at our Khalifa City center or online, and students in Dubai and across the UAE join online, in 1-on-1 or small-group sessions.
