Accredited American Online School in the UAE: A Parent’s Guide for Middle and High School…
View Blog
Choosing a school for a middle or high school student often comes down to two options that each leave something out. A traditional school gives structure and a daily social life, but its fixed timetable doesn’t suit every student. A fully online school gives flexibility, but some students find it hard to stay motivated with no one around them.
A hybrid school in Abu Dhabi combines the two. Students follow an accredited online curriculum and spend part of the week at a learning center, with a coach, other students and a planned program of activities.
At Mind Base, this is the Hybrid School Program in Abu Dhabi, offered in partnership with La Senda Global Academy. This guide explains how hybrid schooling works, how the part-time and full-time options compare, and how to decide which one suits your child.
A hybrid school combines online learning with in-person support. Students complete an accredited curriculum online and attend a learning center on set days for coaching, study support and group activities. It offers the flexibility of online school with the routine and community of a physical campus.
For families in the UAE, hybrid learning suits students who need a flexible schedule but still do their best work with a routine, an adult who checks on their progress in person, and time with other students their age.
These three terms are often used interchangeably, but they describe different setups:
Parents sometimes search for “hybrid homeschooling” when they mean the third option. The main difference is who leads the learning. In the Hybrid School Program in Abu Dhabi, parents are not expected to teach. La Senda’s teachers deliver the curriculum, and Mind Base’s success coaches support students in person at the center.
Families in the UAE choose hybrid learning for a mix of academic and practical reasons:
The program has two parts that work together: an online curriculum for academics, and center days for coaching, activities and time with other students. It is designed for middle and high school students.
Students study La Senda’s accredited American online curriculum. La Senda is accredited by Cognia, an international accreditation organization, and follows a standard US high school diploma system.
Learning is self-paced, so students can move faster through subjects they find easy and take more time where they need it. La Senda’s teachers are available Monday to Thursday by chat and email, and they hold live classes every week. Enrollment is open year-round, so students can start without waiting for a new school year.
On center days, students come to Mind Base in Khalifa City, Abu Dhabi, from 9am to 2pm. Each student works with a success coach who supports them with their online coursework. The day also includes workshops, extracurricular activities and competitions.
The center days don’t replace the online school. They give students a place to do their schoolwork with support, and they add the activities that are hard to get from online learning alone.
Families can choose how much time their child spends at the center. All three options use the same accredited online curriculum.
| Fully online | Part-time hybrid | Full-time hybrid | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Accredited American online curriculum | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Days at the center | None | 2 per week | 4 per week |
| Center hours | Not applicable | 9am to 2pm | 9am to 2pm |
| Success coach | No | Yes | Yes |
| Workshops, activities and competitions | No | Yes | Yes |
| Best suited for | Independent, self-motivated learners | Students who want structure and flexibility | Students who want a full weekly routine |
Part-time hybrid gives students two structured days a week at the center, with the rest of the week free for online study at home, training or other commitments.
Full-time hybrid brings students to the center four days a week, which gives a routine close to a traditional school week while keeping the flexibility of a self-paced curriculum.
Here is an example of how the two hybrid options can fit into a student’s week. This is an illustration only. The center schedule is confirmed at enrollment.
If your child works well independently and doesn’t need in-person support, read our guide to choosing an American online school in the UAE.
The center day has three parts: support with the online curriculum, workshops and activities, and competitions. Here is what each one covers.
Self-paced learning works best when someone helps the student plan. Each student’s success coach helps them organize their week, keep up with their courses and work through lessons they find difficult. For students who struggle to stay on track at home, this in-person accountability is often the main reason families choose hybrid over fully online.
Coaches also get to know each student over time, which makes it easier to spot when a student is falling behind or ready for more challenge.
Online learning covers the academic curriculum well, but it offers fewer chances for creative, hands-on and group work. The center fills that gap with workshops and extracurricular activities that students do together. This is where students build friendships and work on projects with other students, which fully online students often miss.
Students also take part in competitions designed to develop critical thinking skills. Competitions give students a reason to apply what they’ve learned, work under time pressure and explain their reasoning, all of which prepare them for higher education.

Hybrid learning is not right for every student, but it works well for several types of learners:
For high school students, the online curriculum leads to an American high school diploma. La Senda offers two American diploma pathways:
AP courses are also available for students who want to challenge themselves and strengthen their university applications.
The center days add skills that universities look for beyond grades: working with others, thinking critically and solving problems in competitions. When students start planning their applications, Mind Base’s college counseling team can guide them through choosing universities and preparing applications, and our SAT preparation program helps students who need standardized test scores.
The right option depends on your child and your family’s week. These questions can help you decide:
Two examples show how these questions play out. A Grade 10 student who trains for a sport most afternoons and plans their study well may be best served by part-time hybrid: two center days keep them on track, and the rest of the week stays flexible. A Grade 7 student who is new to online learning and misses being around classmates will usually settle in faster with full-time hybrid, where most of their week follows a set routine.
If you’re unsure, a consultation with our team can help you match the option to your child’s needs and goals.
The program is designed for middle school and high school students.
Center days run from 9am to 2pm. Part-time hybrid students attend two days a week, and full-time hybrid students attend four days a week.
Center days take place at Mind Base in Khalifa City, Abu Dhabi.
